Middle School Artists Sewing

Middle school artists are sewing!  We just finished our sewing and textile unit.  We started out by viewing Uglydolls and looking at the trend of DIY dolls, monsters and creatures.  The first assignment required artists to come up with two possible designs and draw them in colored pencil.  Then, students learned how to create and use a pattern.  After choosing and cutting all the fabric pieces it was time to assemble and sew.  Students learned a straight stitch and whip stitch and how to sew on a button properly.  As the dolls came together they looked fantastic!  Students photographed their own finished design and those photos will be posted this week - in the mean time enjoy these:
