Studio 101 NEWS

What’s up
in Studio 101?
New this year:
Freaky Fridays – On Fridays, artists in grades 1-8 will start their art class looking at some very unique contemporary art from around the world.  We will focus our discussions on non-traditional art materials, public art and ingenious ideas!

En Español – With Senorita Warner sharing our space in Studio 101, the first trimester will include a focus on Hispanic art and artists.  Each grade level will complete one project that dives a little deeper into Latino and Hispanic cultures.  Right now 3rd graders are learning about poet Pablo Neruda and creating an art project that combines poetry and an appreciation for nature...ask them about it!  This excellent book was our inspiration:

ARTSmart with the Winter Concert 12/13/12 – Propel East’s own artist market!  This year the ARTSmart will be the same evening as the Winter Concert.  All artists in grades 5-8 are invited to sell their original, handmade artwork – and keep the proceeds!  More information will be sent home in October.

Here is the latest handpainted rock by an artist who was a part of our Artist Market last year - 5th grader Brianna!  She brought some work into to share with me just last week...this one is called "Golden Pizza"! LOL!

Back By Popular Demand:
CMP Collaboration - 1st grade artists will once again be a part of the exciting collaboration between Propel Schools and the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.  We will have several field trips throughout the year and Ms. Babusci, Ms. Thompson and Ms. Cain will create an interdisciplinary curriculum that teaches art, literacy and science in a unique and hands-on way in our classrooms and at the museum!

Art Club – When PEAK starts up again, 7-8 grade artists can sign up for Art Club on Thursdays.  We will work on painting murals again as well as creating unique artworks for the December ARTSmart and the backdrop for the Winter Concert.

The Blog - www.propelstudio101.blogspot.com - Our blog continues to feature the weekly art vocabulary, special announcements and photos of our East artists at work. You can also find a link to our blog on the “STUDIO 101” FACEBOOK page.

Artsonia Online Gallery and Shop - www.artsonia.com - In our second year, we will again post photos of artists work on this worldwide online gallery of children’s art.  But the best part is you can buy high-quality gifts featuring your child’s artwork and it is also a fundraiser for our studio!  Look for more information in Friday Folders in October.
